Hello! My name is Pekka Hirvonen and I am a professional translator.
I am rather experienced in saying things in other words. When I received my licence to make authorised translations from English to Finnish and Finnish to English in 1987 I had been doing professional translation as a sideline for years. After retiring from a professorship in English at the University of Joensuu I took up translation as a full-time occupation and founded a one-man translation business.
Over the years I have been sent all kinds of texts to translate: certificates, bank statements, website content, commercial material, wills and other legal documents, scholarly articles and doctoral dissertations. I have translated entries to the Guinness Book of Records, a bid for a second-hand tractor on sale in England, and love letters to a recipient in Sri Lanka.
I provide the following services: translation (including authorized translation) from English to Finnish and Finnish to English, editing of English texts intended for publication (“language checking”), and consecutive interpretation between English and Finnish.
I am a member of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters and the Finnish association of entrepreneurs, Suomen Yrittäjät.
